What follows is the baseline underneath any of it — worth doing whether you're medicated or not.
Everyone knows what Ozempic does now. Almost nobody knows what it's copying.
Ozempic works by boosting GLP-1 — a natural hormone produced by your gut that slows digestion and keeps you feeling full.
Your gut produces GLP-1 every day, in response to what you eat and how you move. The injectables supply a longer-lasting synthetic version. The receptor, the mechanism and the effect are the same biology you already own.
Which means it's worth knowing what raises it, because most people are running that system at a fraction of what it's capable of.
Lever one: fibre
The largest by some distance, and the one nearly everyone is short on.
Fibre feeds your gut bacteria, and the bacteria do the signalling
Bacteria ferment fibre and produce short-chain fatty acids, which trigger the release of GLP-1 and PYY — your body's own fullness and blood-sugar-balance signals.
Aim: 30g of fibre daily. Most people manage about 15.

Lever two: bitters
The forgotten one, and the fastest to act.
Bitter foods stimulate GLP-1 and gastrin, both of which support digestion and blood sugar regulation. Bitterness on the tongue is itself a signal — receptors there start the cascade before anything reaches your stomach, which is why a bitter leaf before a meal does more than the same leaf halfway through.
Practically: a handful of rocket before dinner, or half a grapefruit before breakfast. Ten seconds of effort for a genuine physiological effect. The Mediterranean habit of a bitter leaf salad at the start of a meal was not an aesthetic choice.
Lever three: strength training
Slightly different mechanism, same family of outcome.
Strength training stimulates growth hormone and IGF-1 — your body's build-and-repair peptides. It also improves insulin sensitivity, which changes how much work the whole satiety system has to do in the first place.
Two to four sessions a week. Progressive, meaning the load goes up over time. This is the slowest of the three levers and the one with the widest set of side benefits.
Why the combination matters
Any one of these on its own is a modest effect. Together they compound, because they act on different points of the same loop.

Where people go wrong
- Going from 15g to 30g of fibre in one day. You will be uncomfortable, you will conclude fibre doesn't suit you, and you will be wrong. Increase over two to three weeks.
- Taking a fibre supplement instead of eating fibre. Different types feed different bacteria. A powder is a narrow input where food is a wide one.
- Eating bitters at the end of the meal. The receptors are on your tongue and the point is the signal that precedes digestion.
- Cardio only. It's good for you and it doesn't produce the same hormonal response. Both, not either.
- Expecting an injectable-scale effect. These levers move the system meaningfully. They are not equivalent to a drug, and any page claiming otherwise is selling something.
